Foot pain often Start from irregular foot skeletal structures causing bone friction

Feb 23,2024 | HAPPY WALKER

People often say, "Life is about movement," yet many refrain from physical activity due to foot pain. Ignoring foot pain can lead to foot deformities such as bunions and hammer toes over time, with pain extending to the knees, back, spine, shoulders, and beyond.

Founder of Happy Walker MR Teo explains that foot pain can arise from various reasons, but if it's due to uneven stress on the foot bones, Happy Walker's customized insoles can alleviate the pain to some extent.

Happy Walker's customized insoles help stabilize the "foundation of the building."

Mr Teo states that foot pain often results from irregular foot skeletal structures causing bone friction. Only by realigning the skeletal structure can foot pain be fundamentally resolved. He analogizes the human body to a building, with the feet serving as its foundation. Just as the Leaning Tower of Pisa tilts due to an unstable foundation, an imbalanced foot skeletal structure affects not only foot health but also extends to the knees, lower back, spine, and shoulders.

With an engineering background,Mr Teo is a podiatrist who underwent six months of training in the United States to study human anatomy and foot correction techniques, using principles of biomechanics to address foot problems caused by skeletal misalignment.

In 2008, he introduced podiatric correction services to Singapore and founded the first local company specializing in custom-made insoles—Happy Walker.

Mr Teo explains that Happy Walker's insoles are not ordinary; they are "measure-foot customized" corrective insoles tailored to each individual's specific needs. Using advanced biomechanical support technology, also known as ABS technology, the insoles achieve biomechanical balance in the feet, thereby alleviating foot pain caused by uneven stress on the foot skeletal structure.

Flat feet can also be corrected with Happy Walker's customized insoles.

Flat feet are a common foot defect, affecting an estimated 20% to 30% of the population worldwide. While normal feet exhibit an arch, flat feet have collapsed arches, and from the rear view, the heel bone is not straight but turned outward.

Happy Walker, notes that flat feet lack proper cushioning, leading to poor body balance and increased risk of foot and knee injuries. Consequently, in Singapore, individuals with flat feet are ineligible for military service. However, Happy Walker's customized insoles can be beneficial for flat feet.

After wearing Happy Walker's custom insoles for a year, a woman named Cindy Ng noticed a significant straightening of her heel bone, with no outward turning.

Such corrective results are more common in children, says Lin. Parents are increasingly aware of the importance of early foot care since correcting foot problems is easier during childhood.

For example, a couple noticed their seven-year-old son's awkward gait, which was corrected after he wore Happy Walker's custom insoles.

Happy Walker also offers custom insole packages for children, with parents having two pairs made—one for immediate use and another to be used nine months or a year later, as children's feet continue to grow.

Children must be at least five years old to wear Happy Walker's custom insoles, but there's no age limit for adults. Even a 100-year-old person can wear them as long as they can walk.

How does Happy Walker make custom insoles?

Upon entering a Happy Walker store, trained staff first provide a brief introduction and then conduct a foot scan to obtain various data, such as foot size, arch height, and pressure distribution on the sole. The scan also reveals any foot bone misalignments.

Based on the computer report, staff members explain the customer's foot issues in detail. They also communicate with customers to gather additional information, including observing their walking posture and assessing the suitability of their footwear.

Happy Walker has garnered over 50,000 satisfied customers in ten years.

Mr Teo  remarks, "Over the past ten years, we've sold over 50,000 pairs of insoles, with only 20 cases of genuine refunds, all involving exceptional circumstances that couldn't be addressed by correcting the skeletal structure."

During these 15 years, Happy Walker developed proprietary 3D laser foot scanning technology and became the first company to establish a manufacturing laboratory locally, enabling custom insoles to be produced within five working days. Moreover, based on foot data from around 100,000 people, Happy Walker developed health shoes tailored to Asians.

In the field of podiatric correction, Happy Walker rightfully leads in Singapore.
